Anyone who prints a PDF document

Symptoms and Signs

When attempting to print a PDF file in Adobe Acrobat, you receive one of the following error messages:

"No pages were selected."

"The document can't be printed."

"A drawing error has occurred."

Workaround (if available)

If the document won't print, try printing the document using the "Print as Image" option:

Go to File > Print > Advanced > check Print as Image

If "Print as Image" does not work, check the PDF file for Syntax errors:

  1. Open the PDF in Adobe.
  2. Select Tools > Print Production
  3. Select Preflight.
  4. In the Find bar, type "syntax".
  5. Select the profile Report PDF syntax issues. Then click Analyze and fix.

If document(s) were sent by email, try downloading the files to your hard drive first. Then try opening the document from your local hard drive and printing them.

It's possible the file(s) were corrupted during email transit. Ask the sender to resend the documents and try again.

If you have the original source file, try recreating the PDF by opening the file in its original application (such as MS Word) and selecting File > Save as PDF.
