Summary

This article explains how to fix the error that appears when installing Adobe Fonts through Adobe Acrobat Pro or Creative Cloud. The issue occurs when Windows already has a system font installed with the same name, preventing the Adobe Font from being added.

Who This Article Is For

Employees with an Adobe Acrobat Pro or Creative Cloud license who are attempting to install Adobe Fonts.

Symptoms

You may experience this issue if:

  • You see errors such as “A font could not be added due to a conflict” or “A font with the same name is already installed.”

  • Red dots appear next to each font variation in Adobe Fonts.

  • The font never changes to a blue or green installation indicator.

Cause

This issue happens when a Windows system font already exists with the same exact name as the Adobe Font you are trying to install. Because both fonts share the same name, Adobe Fonts cannot install its version until the system font is removed.

Resolution Steps

  1. Open File Explorer.

  2. Navigate to: C:\Windows\Fonts

  3. Locate the system font that has the same name as the Adobe Font you are trying to install.

  4. Contact the IT Service Desk for assistance.
Removing fonts from the Windows Fonts directory requires administrator access. A technician will need to remove the conflicting system font for you.

  5. After the conflicting font is removed, return to Adobe Fonts and reinstall the desired font. A blue dot next to the font name indicates it installed successfully for Adobe apps.

  6. To use the font in other applications (like Word or PowerPoint), click the cloud icon next to the font. A green dot indicates the font is now available in Adobe apps and local applications.

Known Limitations or Alternatives

There are no alternative installation methods. The conflicting system font must be removed before Adobe Fonts can install.
