Fix: .ica Files Not Opening in Citrix Workspace

If .ica files download but don’t open in Citrix Workspace, Windows may not be set to use Citrix for these files. Follow these steps to make .ica files launch Citrix apps and desktops correctly.

Who This Article Is For

Employees who use Citrix Workspace and find that .ica files do not open automatically.

Before You Begin

  • These steps assume Citrix Workspace is already installed on your computer.

  • Close any open Citrix sessions before making changes.

Step 1: Set .ica to Open with Citrix Workspace

  1. Right-click any downloaded .ica file.

  2. Select Open withChoose another app.

  3. Choose Citrix Workspace or Citrix Connection Manager from the list.

  4. Check Always use this app to open .ica files and click OK.

 

If Citrix Is Not in the List

  1. Right-click a .ica file → Open withChoose another app.

  2. Click More appsLook for another app on this PC.

  3. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\ICA Client\wfcrun32.exe, select it, then check Always use this app and click OK.

 

Optional: Make .ica Files Auto-Open from Your Browser

  • In Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, after a .ica file downloads, click the arrow/menu next to it and select Always open files of this type (wording may vary).
