Windows Defender

What Is Windows Defender?

Windows Defender, also known as Microsoft Defender Antivirus, is the security software required on all Gwinnett County devices. It protects against viruses, malware, ransomware, and other threats by running automatically in the background.

Defender is automatically deployed and managed by Information Technology Services (ITS). It cannot be removed or disabled, as it is a required security tool for all County-issued PCs, laptops, servers, tablets, and mobile devices (including both Android and Apple).

Who Uses This Software?

Every Gwinnett County employee who uses a County-issued Windows or mobile device uses Windows Defender. It operates silently in the background to protect devices and data. Most users will never need to interact with it directly unless there is an alert or issue.
